Reed pushing for $200 in federal funds for baby care

PROVIDENCE, RI (WLNE) – With the possibility of government support in the millions, Senator Jack Reed is calling for support for child care funds and Universal Pre-k.

Senator Reed is calling for publicly funded Pre-K to be made available to all families of three- and four-year-olds who so wish.

Redd will speak on the matter and discuss what the Biden administration’s $ 200 billion proposal could do for Rhode Island.

Rhode Island received high marks for the quality of its Pre-K program and ranks 35th for access according to the National Institute for Early Education Research.

RI’s pre-K registration is determined by lottery and not all families can gain access.

“Access to quality, affordable childcare is critical to families and the health of our economy,” said Senator reed.

“The federal government needs to work more closely with state and local governments to share the cost and give American children a stronger, healthier start. President Biden has offered a plan to make Pre-K universal and make childcare affordable for every family in this country. And I will work hard with my colleagues in Congress to provide the federal funding to make this possible, ”he continued.
