California freeway standoff ends hours later with youngster fleeing tear fuel, driver in custody

After an hour-long break in the middle of a freeway near Los Angeles on Tuesday evening, when police shot pepperballs and tear gas into the suspect’s car, a small figure got out and ran into a police officer just before the driver Taken into custody.

The stalemate lasted about three hours. Police fired several rounds of pepper balls through the vehicle window, none of which forced anyone to flee. After sunset, tactical units arrived and sent tear gas into the limo. Communication helicopters hovered overhead.

Finally a figure appeared. It looked like a child or a small adult and ran to a waiting police officer. Within moments, members of the SWAT team took the driver, who appeared to be a grown woman, into custody.

The chopper video didn’t show anyone inside, but a message camera on the ground appeared to be showing the movement in front of the car. The police had still not approached the car more than half an hour after it stopped.

According to NBC 4, the police were simultaneously looking for a murder suspect on a stretch of the 101 Freeway and also kept this street closed.
