Three in custody as youngster handled for 4-day previous accidents

SCIOTO COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) – Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman says three people are charged with child endangerment after a 4-year-old child is rushed to the emergency room with multiple injuries.

Thoroughman said the Scioto County sheriff’s office received a call Saturday from Southern Ohio Medical Center reporting injuries to a young child.

A detective and a deputy sheriff then spoke to the child and the child’s mother, who took them to the hospital.

Detectives were able to determine that the mother had not seen her child for several months because the child’s father had custody. When the mother learned that the father was detained out of town and had left the child with his girlfriend, the mother went to her home in Wheelersburg and saw that her child was bruised and had two black eyes. The mother then pushed the door open and grabbed her child for medical care. He has since been taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital, where he is in stable condition.

Investigators responded to the 1100 block of Possum Hollow Road in Wheelersburg, where residents arranged for their daughter Kaitlene Bice to speak to law enforcement.

After an investigation, Thoroughman said, investigators concluded that the child had sustained his injuries at least 4 days earlier. No one in the residence called for help, nor was the child ever medically treated.

The sheriff’s office arrested 25-year-old Kaitlene Bice on charges of putting 1 child at risk.

William Bice Jr., 51, and Mary Ann Bice, 44, were also arrested. Both were charged with 1 complicity in endangering children. All three were arrested without incident and are being held in Scioto County Jail on a $ 50,000 bond. You should appear in court on Monday morning.
