Teen in custody for youngster’s murder close to Michigan border

A 14-year-old boy from Indiana was arrested in connection with the death of a 6-year-old girl whose body was found in a wooded area. The suspect’s name is currently on hold as he will not be charged as an adult in this case, according to the Associated Press.

However, the St. Joseph County Probate Court ordered that he be arrested by police before his next court appearance on March 22nd.

According to prosecutors, autopsy reports indicate that Grace Ross died of asphyxiation and her death was considered homicide. Her body was found in New Carlisle, Indiana, about two hours after she was first reported missing on March 12. New Carlisle is about five miles from the Michigan border.

More tests are being done on Ross and the results are pending, according to the Associated Press.

“She was a shining star. No matter where she went, she lit a room. She’s so intelligent, so beautiful and spunky, ”said Grace’s grandmother Kelli Howard.
