A Springville man was arrested Wednesday after authorities received a phone call from a woman who claimed he shot her mother.

According to the probable cause statement filed in support of the arrest, the adult woman contacted authorities after her 17-year-old sister called her to report that her brother shot her mother. The youth had walked half a block north of the residence after the incident.

Springville Police Department officers arrived at the residence and found an adult woman – identified as Victoria Ramirez – dead at the kitchen table with a gunshot wound to her neck.

There was also a 14 year old child in the residence.

Authorities cleaned up the house to look for the suspect, 23-year-old Mike Lopez from Springville. Officers found Lopez in a bathtub in the basement. A shotgun leaned against the tub, and although Lopez did not respond, authorities reported that there was no evidence of bodily harm.

Lopez was taken to the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center and his blood was tested. A sample of Lopez’s blood was positive for THC, according to arrest documents.

The two teenage women were taken to the Springville Police Department and interviewed.

In an interview with the 17-year-old child, the girl told police that the family was gathering at the table to have dinner when Lopez walked in with his shotgun. Lopez allegedly picked up the gun and pointed it at his mother before turning to face his sisters and giving them a nod.

The 17-year-old said her sister got up from her chair and went to the bathroom. She told police that she followed her sister to see what was going on and did not believe the gun was actually loaded.

The girl allegedly heard her mother say, “I know you are going to kill me” and turned around just in time to see Lopez allegedly shot her mother in the neck.

Lopez then allegedly walked over to them, grabbed the 14-year-old teenager’s arm, and started dancing with her.

The 17-year-old said she locked herself in the bathroom, climbed out the window, and ran away from the residence to call her adult sister who lives in Spanish Fork.

The girl told police that Lopez allegedly bought the shotgun along with a pistol the day before. She also said Lopez allegedly supplied marijuana to another youth in the family, adding that he “has acted really weird lately, where he has meditated a lot, where he claims to go into different dimensions and about many bad ones Talk to people, ”According to the probable cause statement.

During an interview with the 14-year-old teenager, authorities reported that she acted strangely. The girl allegedly said she and Lopez spent a lot of time together and even slept in turns so they could take care of each other.

The girl confirmed her sister’s accounts, saying Lopez allegedly bought a shotgun and pistol from Sportsman’s Warehouse in Provo.

Authorities asked the girl about her mother and she allegedly claimed it was not her mother who was shot, adding that it was someone else. She said she was in the bathroom when the shot was fired.

Police urged the 14-year-old girl to dance with Lopez after her mother was killed and allegedly “looked at the arresting officer and smiled and said she remembered the dancing and then tried to sing the song for.” to recite me ”. according to arrest documents.

The girl denied knowing that Lopez would shoot her mother. Authorities reported that she did not show any emotion during the interview.

Lopez was transferred from hospital to Utah County Jail after being medically evacuated. He was taken into custody on suspicion of a serious first degree crime.

Arrest officials have requested that Lopez be held without bail because his father fled to Mexico after participating in another criminal investigation and Lopez could pose a threat to Witnesses and other family members in the area.

“Mike is very dangerous and has already proven that he is not afraid to harm people,” read the explanation of the likely cause.
