A man who reported the death of a woman to Iowa County authorities Monday afternoon was arrested as a suspect of the woman’s murder, the Justice Department said.

In an update on Tuesday, the DOJ said the man and woman were known to each other.

The man reported the death in a house in the village of Avoca around 3:30 p.m. Monday. The arriving law enforcement authorities contacted the man on site.

The death believed to be murder was an isolated incident and poses no threat to the public.

The investigation is still ongoing. No further information was available as of Tuesday, including the victim’s name and the location where she was found.

The DOJ Criminal Investigation Department is leading this investigation with assistance from the Iowa County Sheriff’s Office and the Avoca Village Police Department.
