Replace: 40-year-old man from Fort Bliss launched from custody in photographs fired incident in West El Paso

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – A 40-year-old man from Fort Bliss who was arrested Sunday evening after gunfire was fired during a fight in West El Paso has been released.

According to the El Paso Police Department, the man was arrested but released by a judge who refused to sign an arrest warrant.

The investigation is ongoing.

El Paso police said a person was taken into custody Sunday night following a reported battle in West El Paso.

EPPD units responded on Mesa Street and Mesa Hills Drive after reports of up to 50 people engaged in a gun battle shortly before 9:30 p.m. Sunday. The call was upgraded to a shot call. The person with the gun is said to have escaped from the scene.

EPPD tweeted that a person was in custody at 9:29 p.m. No injuries were reported.
