A Newark man allegedly showed a gun and threatened to kill his ex-wife’s new husband outside a Maryland house after the suspect picked up his son for his planned week-long detention, according to Cecil District Court records.

Suspect Andy Ricardo Hernandezbedoloa, 22, is also accused of pulling his ex-wife’s hair, choking her and slapping her in the face several times while holding her child.

Elkton police officers responded to the 100 block of Automotive Drive at around 5:15 p.m. on April 9 after receiving a report of a gun attack, police reported.

EPD Ofc. Demond was the first officer to arrive at the scene, and he saw Hernandezbedoloa grab his ex-wife with both hands while they stood at the back of the suspect’s vehicle, according to court records. Demond took Hernandezbedoloa into custody and locked him in his patrol car, according to court records.

Investigators learned that Hernandezbedoloa had come to his ex-wife’s home to pick up their son, told police, and found that the former couple had a judicial custody agreement. His ex-wife’s current husband came to the door and told Hernandezbedoloa to wait outside while he finished the child, police added.

“Herndandezbedoloa stayed on the porch and kept knocking on the door and yelling swear words at (his ex-wife’s current husband),” the records said.

After his son was handed over to him, Hernandezbedoloa put the boy on a child seat in the rear of his vehicle, police reported. Then he showed the ex-wife’s husband a gun and threatened to kill him, police said.

After seeing her ex-husband supposedly brandishing the gun while watching at the front door, the mother decided she didn’t want her son to go with him because she was concerned for the child’s safety, police said .

Hernandezbedoloa reportedly grabbed his ex-wife when she removed the boy from the vehicle and attacked her, police added.

Investigators found that the suspect’s ex-wife had bruises on her left foot, neck and top of her head, where “part of her hair was pulled out” according to court records. She also had abrasions on her right shoulder and left foot, according to court records.

The police reported that the woman refused medical treatment. The child was not injured.

The woman told investigators that she slapped her ex-husband in the face while trying to push him away, police said. Hernandezbedoloa had a “small scratch” on the left side of his nose that was bleeding, police added.

He was examined at the scene for the scratch on his nose, but Hernandezbedoloa did not need any further medical treatment, court records show.

During a search of the suspect’s vehicle, Demond found a Canik TP9SA semi-automatic pistol in the suspect’s jacket pocket and confiscated the weapon.

“The jacket was sitting on the child seat (the boy) was sitting on at the beginning of the incident,” the documents say.

No other weapons were found, police reported.

Hernandezbedoloa faces six charges, including a criminal offense – second degree child abuse, which is an offense that can be punished with up to 15 years in prison if convicted, according to court records. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on May 7th.

The five offenses brought against him include two charges of second-degree bodily harm – an offense that carries a maximum penalty of 10 years if convicted – neglecting a minor and loaded pistol on a person, according to court records.

Hernandezbedoloa remained without bail at the Cecil County Detention Center on Tuesday, the day after his bail review hearing, court records show.
