The tragic incident occurred on a private driveway on Panorama Road in Mt Wellington, said Police Inspector Jason Homan.

My neighbor’s little Tamaiti was hit by a car this afternoon and killed. If you are a praying guy please keep them in your prayers tonight.

Police said today that they continue to offer victim assistance support to the toddler’s family during this incredibly difficult and devastating time.

The family has asked for privacy as they come to terms with what happened.

The police are still working to understand the circumstances of the clash and this is expected to take some time.

The death is handed over to the coroner.

A photographer previously told the Herald that there were at least 10 police cars at the scene in a driveway to a block of units.
