Take a financial snapshot

Sometimes just asking these questions can be a problem for couples. I know when you are planning a wedding, you want to plan the best scenario. But you also need to be prepared for the worst.

If your fiancée is reluctant to take formal steps to protect each of you, take a financial snapshot of where the two of you are right before you get married. Print out bank statements from your accounts. Save a copy of your mortgage statement and find out what your home would be sold for when you put it on the market. And then do the same annually. These are the types of documents that will be needed if separate objects ever become a problem in the future.
