North Carolina courtroom voids ruling that sperm donor should pay baby help to girl he met in Virginia

RALEIGH, NC (AP) – A North Carolina appeals court says a judge should not have relied on Virginia paternity laws to determine whether a man should pay child support to a woman who has donated sperm on North Carolina law.

The case involves a man who artificially inseminated a woman he met in Virginia. The conception and pregnancy took place there.

Years later, a Warren County, North Carolina welfare agency went to court to get him to pay child support.

A district court judge said he could not find an exception for the donor and ordered payments.
