Man taken into custody; lacking Chesterfield mom and youngster discovered protected

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA. – A kidnapping suspect was arrested and a missing Chesterfield woman and her 12-month-old son were brought to safety in Petersburg on Sunday afternoon, police said.

According to Chesterfield Police, officers were called to the 12500 block of Mount Blanco Court at around 12:15 p.m. to report a kidnapping and gunfire.

“On the spot, police learned that an armed man identified as Patrick Sharod Parrish got out of a vehicle and wanted to see the victim,” said Lt. Brad Conner of the Chesterfield Police Department. “When the victim, identified in Maryaih Rhem, left the residence, she was forcibly placed in the vehicle when Parrish fired a rifle. The vehicle fled in with Parrish and Rhem, 24.”
The officers could not find Rhem’s 12-month-old son Royce.

The police announced in an email update at around 4:40 pm that Rhem and her son had been found “safe and unharmed” in Petersburg.

Parrish was also taken into custody in Petersburg.

Parrish, of the 800 block of Gladstone Street in Petersburg, faces numerous charges including kidnapping, use of a firearm in the commission of a crime, possession of a firearm by a convicted criminal, reckless handling of a firearm, swinging and unloading of a firearm within 600 feet from a house, according to police.

Police said their investigation into the incident was still ongoing.
