Man taken into custody after reportedly stabbing 19-year-old cashier at Walmart in Connecticut

WATERBURY, Conn. (WTNH) – Waterbury Police are investigating an attack on Walmart on Wolcott Street Sunday afternoon.

Police report 40 year old Hichman Asfir from Stamford assaulted a 19 year old cashier.

According to the police, the cashier searched a gallon of milk for the customer and informed him of the total amount. Then he allegedly went around the cash register, grabbed her hair, and stabbed her on the left side of her head with a jackknife.

After the attack, the victim fell to the ground. At that time Asfir dropped the knife and sat on the wall near the cash register.

The victim said she did not know the suspect. She was taken to Saint Mary’s Hospital in an ambulance to treat a stab wound behind her left ear. She is reported to be in a stable state.

Asfir was taken into custody without incident. The jackknife was recovered and confiscated as evidence.

Asfir is charged with assault and violation of the peace. He is being held on a $ 500,000 bond pending a trial.
