Man In Custody After Hourslong Standoff In Blaine – WCCO

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Blaine police say a man was arrested Monday night after a five-hour break at a RV park.

Just after 3 p.m., officials reported a house attack at Restwood Terrace Mobile Home Park on the 9100 block of Tippecanoe Street Northeast. A woman reportedly fled the residence at one point with a child, telling police that the man threatened her with a knife. A second child was left with him.

Police say the man didn’t have a phone in the mobile home and couldn’t communicate with him for hours. They were also advised that he might be armed with a weapon.

Nearby residents were evacuated and several other local authorities were called in to help, including Anoka County’s SWAT team who tried to speak to him using a PA system. He does not speak fluent English, so a St. Paul police officer who spoke his language was called in to help.

The man finally surrendered around 8 p.m. with a child in tow. It is still not clear if he was in possession of a gun. He is expected to be charged with domestic violence and strangulation of second degree offenses.
