A Lexington man was arrested Saturday after a police standoff and is likely to face charges of strangling a woman and injuring a child.

During the incident, the victim’s child tried to stop the attack with a machete. When Allison tried to take the machete, law enforcement officials said the child was cut on the face and hands.

The child was taken to a local hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries.

When the officers tried to arrest Allison, he resisted and barricaded himself inside. After several hours of negotiations with law enforcement, Allison was arrested without incident.

The woman and child were not in the house at the time of the argument.

While he was being transported by the police, Allison requested a medical evaluation and was taken to a local hospital where he is currently being cared for.

Lexington Police Department officials say Allison will be formally charged with assault on a woman, assault through strangulation, assault on a child under 12 and assault on a law enforcement officer after Allison is released from medical care.
