Lady who allegedly attacked well-known musician’s teen son, now in custody

Miya Ponsetto Mugshot: Ventura County Sheriff’s Department

MANHATTAN, New York – Authorities took notice of the situation after a Grammy-winning jazz musician posted on social media that his 14-year-old son was the target of what he considered to be a racist attack there is a woman connected to the incident in custody.

According to ABC 7, the nationally recognized trumpeter Keyon Harrold’s Instagram video and post showed a woman now identified as Miya Ponsetto, of California, who assaulted Harrold’s son and falsely accused the boy of stealing her phone in a Manhattan hotel, in which the father-son duo was a guest.

Harrold claims that Ponsetto would have been less likely to blame and then physically assault his son if his son hadn’t been black.

The police said oOfficers from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department planned to stop the warrant for her arrest from New York, but she refused to stop and slowly drove through her neighborhood in Piru, California.

When Ponsetto stalled, police said she resisted the arrest and ABC News reported that she was being physically restrained.

The woman is reportedly being held without bail and will have an extradition hearing. Once this is finalized in relation to the charges against her in New York, she will also be able to bring charges of alleged persecution and resistance to the arrest in California.

Ponsetto was confirmed as a woman in the December 26 video by her lawyer Sharen Ghatan, ABC News reports.

He described Ponsetto as “emotionally uncomfortable” and remorseful.

Harrold has called on the Manhattan District Attorney to file a charge against Ponsetto for assault and battery charge.
