Kidnapping suspect in custody following pursuit, hourslong standoff in Palmdale condo

The prosecution of a kidnap suspect by law enforcement turned into an hour-long stalemate, with a home in Palmdale being shot at on Thursday afternoon.

The chase ended at around 5:40 p.m. at the Sierra View Gardens complex on the 37800 block of 20th Street East. The incident began as early as the 2000 block on West Avenue H-8 in Lancaster, said Shawn Du Busky, deputy sheriff of Los Angeles County.

Du Busky was unable to immediately provide further details about the kidnapping, but said the chase driver pointed a gun at someone who reported the 911 incident.

Witnesses said they saw a woman in the passenger seat of the car during the persecution.

MPs once turned the chase over to the California Highway Patrol, but were at the scene when the driver parked his vehicle and ran into the apartment complex.

During the pursuit, a Lancaster CHP officer was involved in a collision and an ambulance was called, but there was no update on the condition of the officer, according to CHP Officer Michael Brandt.

An hour after the chase ended, a few dozen MPs could be seen in plants outside an entrance to one of the buildings.

Officials later said the suspect barricaded himself in an apartment where his mother lives, but it was believed he was the only person in it.

At least one MP opened fire at some point, but no one was beaten, the sheriff’s department said in a press release.

A mental assessment team was on site trying to negotiate with the man, but the stalemate persisted after 10 p.m.

The suspect was finally taken into custody shortly before 12:30 p.m., according to a tweet from the Sheriff’s Department.

The authorities have not released any information about the kidnap victim’s condition or relationship with the suspect.

The suspect was taken into custody around 12:20 a.m., but the scene is still active. Please keep away from the area. Thanks for your patience!
