The child’s father, Leander Nathaniel Harris, 23, of Glennville, Georgia, is in custody, according to the GBI.

Harris allegedly abducted the baby and violently assaulted the mother. Now he is charged, among other things, with kidnapping and aggravated assault.

The GBI said it recovered the child, who was uninjured in Statesboro, with help from the Long County Sheriff’s Office, the Statesboro Police Department and the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office.

The bureau said the child had been classified as at risk because of the “violent kidnapping of the child and assault on the mother.”
