Sixty first responders put on a special light show for the pediatric patients at Saint Mary’s Hospital to show support during Child Abuse Awareness month. A message of peace, love, and hope from the crowd reached the top two floors, where some are the victims of child abuse. Victims that oncology patient Kiersten Smith wants to one day defend. “I want to be a policeman because I like what they do…policemen and firemen are great people. They save lives,” Smith said. In a show of strength, 12-year-old Kiersten got to play out her dream role of climbing to the top of a swat truck. And with a wave of her baton, she turned the lights on.
