Falkirk, 44-year-old Neal Blighe pleaded guilty to threatening to kill his former partner bare hands in a dispute over child support

A former company executive who threatened to suffocate his ex-partner and cut her car tires in a dispute over child support has been given 120 hours of unpaid work.

Neal Blighe, 44, twice threatened to kill his former partner Jennifer Sheldon after the childcare agency demanded that he pay “a large sum” to support their eight-year-old child.

Prosecutor Kristina Kelly told the Falkirk Sheriff Court, “This relates to a dispute over the Child Support Agency, which is pursuing an investigation into the defendant.”

On September 29th, Blighe – whose rigging and lifting firm, according to Companies House, was closed shortly afterwards – wrote to Ms. Sheldon asking her to call and sort this out, b ***** d, or I’ll kill you with mine bare hands.

A month later he wrote her another message asking about the exact amounts that were paid to the agency.

Ms. Kelly said there were a few quick comments on it, then Blighe wrote again, “It’s going to cost you in the end, bitch. I will slash your car tires every few months, right? I’ll make you pay, b ***** d. ‘

Another message read: “I’m going to make your life hell, b ***** d. I’ll make you wish you never saw me ‘

He urged her to ask the Child Support Agency to change their approach and said if they didn’t I would come to your house and choke you to death – and that’s a promise ‘.

Ms. Kelly added, “He also called the applicant a stupid guy.”

Blighe von Falkirk, who now works in the offshore industry, pleaded guilty to engaging in threatening and abusive behavior.

Defense attorney Kevin Douglas said Blighe was paying Ms. Sheldon “religiously” to support her eight-year-old child when the Child Support Agency suddenly stepped up and asked him “a large sum”.

He said, “He realizes that he shouldn’t have said these things, but it was in the heat of conversation about funds that he apparently believes are not due.

“This was the catalyst that caused him to have an explosive reaction – and which he deeply regrets.”

Sheriff Christopher Shead sentenced Blighe to 120 hours of unpaid labor and said to him, “It is hard to imagine how anyone could behave like this in your circumstances, but you obviously chose to do it.”

He added that the fact that there were two incidents that were “about a month apart makes it all the more serious”.

He also issued a no-harassment order preventing Blighe from contacting the victim directly or indirectly for 12 months.
