Evansville Mother Who Says She is Owed 100Ok in Youngster Assist is Driving Power Behind New Proclamation

Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke declared August Child Support Awareness Month in the city of Evansville.

The mayor announced on Thursday, July 29th, in front of the Civic Center, where he was joined by a single mother of three who has been dealing with child support issues for 17 years.

She says she still owes $ 100,000 in back payments from her ex-husband and hopes to streamline the process by making these issues public and starting her own nonprofit.

“With my experience, I wanted to do something to ensure that there is not ‘just’ child benefit. And I’ve heard that often in my 17 years,” said Julie Eder. “For some children, it could mean that they are not given the things they need to lead healthy and safe lives.”

Her daughter Claudia is now studying law.

“It really influenced my mother. She had sacrifices and struggles,” said Claudia Eder. “You know that she couldn’t take advantage of all of these opportunities at work because she had no one to watch us. Sometimes she couldn’t have lunch to make sure we could have lunch. “

And you are not alone. $ 2 billion is owed in child support for Hoosier children for the past year, and the staggering amount has a lot to do with the pandemic

“Many unconscious parents were given unemployment plus the extra $ 600 a week the government was giving, and all of that was shameless,” said Julie Eder. “So the collections have increased.”

Starting next month, the Vanderburgh County Prosecutor’s Office says the county will be one of three in the state of Hoosier to participate in a new pilot program to update the online system for handling child support cases.

“It’s very difficult to keep up with people as they move from job to job, and technologically we have to approach that,” said Nick Hermann of the Vanderburgh County Prosecutor’s Office. “And I think the state is finally getting this gear and going in that direction.”

Eder’s goal of getting the word out and promoting these issues is to help streamline the process for other struggling single parents by creating their own not-for-profit organization.
