Britney Spears’ younger sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, did not take part in the last “Free Britney” rally. The singer and actress said it wasn’t and that someone impersonated her at a Zoom rally that saw over 1,000 people band together to continue efforts to get Britney “free” from her conservatory.

Free Britney is a fan-led movement that began on April 22, 2019 when Tess Barker and Barbara Gray, hosts of the Britney’s Gram podcast, and 50 others gathered in front of West Hollywood City Hall with posters featuring the Hashtag #. FreeBritney.

Over the weeks, supporters of the award-winning pop singer took part in the #FreeBritney rallies. They met again on May 10, this time outside the Stanley Mosk courthouse in Los Angeles, to be among the first to learn of Spears’ status as a conservator.

The hashtag grew in popularity on social media, and according to The Rolling Stones, Lynne Spears, Britney’s mom, liked multiple posts and a fan Instagram comment that read, “I really hope you help Britney end this Conservatory . I really hope your sick ex-husband doesn’t hold your daughter somewhere against her will. “

In 2019, celebrities publicly joined the movement, including RuPaul’s Drag Race competitors Derrick Barry and Shea Coulée. “A lot of people in the entertainment industry turned to us after that,” says Barker, according to the publication. “We’ve had all sorts of people reaching out to us with stories about noticing behaviors that they found really worrying and they weren’t comfortable sharing them because they didn’t want to endanger their work situation.”

Miley Cyrus also became part of the group when she yelled “Free Britney” while singing “Party in the USA”.
