Dad lacking, 2-year-old lifeless, mother in custody for little one neglect

NEWTON COUNTY, miss. (TCD) –

Mississippi authorities were looking for a North Carolina man after his 2-year-old child was found dead and his wife reported him missing. The man’s wife is in custody for neglecting children.

James Harrison, last seen on Ponderosa Road near the town of Lake, Mississippi, on Friday January 22nd, is wanted for interrogation in a murder case, the Newton County Sheriff’s Department said on Jan. 23 .

WAPT-TV reports that the mother of a 2-year-old who was found dead after being abandoned in Scott County, Miss., Is currently in custody for the girl’s death.

On Thursday, January 21st, James and Amy Harrison, both from Salisbury, NC, were traveling through Mississippi on Interstate 20 daughter with their two children, a 7-year-old boy from Amy’s previous relationship and the couple’s 2-year-old, according to the Scott County Sheriff’s Dept.

The couple reportedly had an argument over Exit 100 and Amy got out of the car and went to a nearby gas station to call a friend from Greenville to pick them up.

The Scott County coroner said James Harrison left the children in the vehicle and at some point the children were able to get off the truck but were separated. The 7-year-old approached a hunter in the woods near Tanglewood Road and asked for help, which sparked a search by law enforcement. MPs found the truck the family was traveling in off the road in a wooded area, WAPT reports.

A search of the area was conducted and the 2-year-old girl was found dead shortly afterwards due to apparent hypothermia. An autopsy will determine the official cause of death. The older child is in DHS custody and lives with a deputy and his family, reports WAPT.

James Harrison, who was last seen on Friday, appeared to be delusional and may also suffer from hypothermia, according to a local resident who spoke to him. James never asked for help and said he was looking for his girlfriend, according to Lee. James Harrison is a type 1 diabetic and without medication.

Amy Harrison is in custody at the Scott County Sheriff’s Office for child neglect.

WLBT-TV reports Scott County authorities said they are accusing James Harrison of manslaughter on the death of his 2-year-old girl.
