Clarification issued on custody of abused kids in Oman | Occasions of Oman

Muscat: The Ministry of Social Development has issued a clarification on child custody of children with a history of abuse.

The aunt of two children who were molested had shared a video clip discussing her efforts to raise the children after they were molested in their parents’ home. She had claimed that the children’s mother was not sane to take care of them.

Commenting on the video, the ministry said: “The ministry is aware of the video and wants to make it clear that it has been following the case since 2018 when the prosecutor issued a court order to hand over the children to her aunt, but this year the mother did filed a custody suit where a decision on custody of the mother has been made and passed to her.

The ministry added, “After the children’s aunt visited the ministry, a team from the ministry visited the children’s home to ensure their safety and it became clear that the children were in a safe environment and stable situation.”

The ministry stressed that it is constantly following up issues related to children in order to provide them protection and care in order to uphold their legally guaranteed rights.

The OHRC is also monitoring the case

The Oman Human Rights Commission is also monitoring the case.

“The commission is monitoring the problem of the children whose aunt says they have been subjected to inhuman abuse,” said a statement confirming that the commission is coordinating with the Ministry of Social Development.
