In September 2016, Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from Brad Pitt after 12 years together (they married in August 2014).

Since then, the former couple has been at war for custody of their children. Now he opens up to friends because of his pain. “Brad finally lets go of his guard and shares his side of the story,” says the insider of the 57-year-old star, who shares Maddox, 19, and Pax, 17. Zahara, 16, ShilohThe 14 and 12 year old twins Knox and Vivienne with Jolie. “He said he didn’t deserve it. The custody battle took so much from him that everyone can see it.”

While the insider notes that Pitt is “doing everything he can” to keep in touch with his kids while he and his ex await a final settlement, he can’t help but feel like he’s doing something lost.

“Brad is tormented because he lost so much time with the kids during these crucial years,” added the insider. “He just wants his kids back.”

The insider says Jolie’s March court records are the latest attempt to smear Pitt’s name. Shortly after they were filed, it was reported that Maddox had made unflattering statements against his father and that the student, along with his siblings, would be willing to offer “evidence and authority in support” of Jolie’s claims against Pitt. (The actor and Maddox have become estranged since they reportedly had an argument aboard a private plane shortly before Angelina’s divorce in 2016. “Any new testimony from Maddox would be explosive for sure,” the insider says, adding that Jolie “works hard” to pose as a victim. “Brad fears she might convince the judge to hand over the children to her,” the insider continues. “He said his worst fear is losing her forever.”

It’s been nearly five years of tension and obvious barn tactics. In June 2018, a judge ruled that Jolie could lose custody if she did not allow the children to develop a “healthy and strong relationship” with Pitt.

Two months later, her attorney filed papers stating that Pitt had not paid “meaningful” child support – he hit back quickly, saying he loaned Jolie $ 8 million for a new home and loaned her more than $ 1.3 million Dollars given for her and the children.
