Accused Kidnapper Of New child In Fairfield Now In Custody

JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL – A woman was arrested Tuesday and charged with kidnapping four-day-old Kamarion Taylor. A family friend, Lakesha Brown, has been charged with kidnapping and is on remand in the Jefferson County Jail.

The child’s mother put him in his crib before taking a nap just before 2 p.m. on Tuesday, and when she woke up the child was reportedly gone. Brown was home when the mother went to sleep and was gone when the mother woke up.

Sgt. Joni Money of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said family members posted videos and photos on Brown’s social media pages that contained pictures of a baby who appeared to be Kamarion. They also briefed MPs on previous social media posts from Brown claiming she had recently given birth to twins.

The JCSO immediately received several leads with information about the baby’s whereabouts and that Brown had likely taken Kamarion with him. Brown was taken into custody, but she did not have the baby and denied any involvement in his abduction, Money said.

“Additional tips led detectives to a house in Woodward Estates, Lipscomb,” said Money. “Upon arrival, the detectives met several adults who were extremely cooperative and led them to the child. The detectives were quick to determine that this child was actually Kamarion Taylor. Kamarion was examined by doctors and found healthy and unaffected was then brought back to his house by detectives to be reunited with his mother. “

Bessemer prosecutors upheld an arrest warrant against Brown. Their bond was set at $ 100,000. Further arrest warrants may be issued in the further course of the investigation.

Money said information obtained during that investigation suggests Brown may have attempted this type of behavior in the past.
