FiveCAP provides training and assistance for Child Development Associate credentials
The National Head-Start Program requires that an assistant to a Head-Start Teacher have at least one Proof of Entitlement to be a Child Development Worker and that visitors to an early Head-Start Home must have at least a Home Visitor CDA.
The Child Development Associate Credential is a nationally recognized credential sponsored by the Council for Professional Recognition. It is a comprehensive program that recognizes essential skills needed in the beginning as well as experienced early childhood professionals.
To help employees achieve the required educational standards, FiveCAP offers a program that offers early childhood development courses, including topics such as child development, family relationships, and providing a safe, healthy environment for young children to explore and learn. The course guides staff through the CDA process, which also includes creating a professional portfolio, classroom observation, and preparing the tests. FiveCAP pays for staff time, mileage and textbooks, as well as the cost of the application process.
The CDA program is a stepping stone to higher education and other employment opportunities in early childhood.
“We believe every child has tremendous potential,” said Joan Meeusen, assistant director of education at FiveCAP Head Start. “More and more research shows that high quality early education options have lifelong benefits for children. By the time a child is only 5 years old, the brain has gone through about 85% of its development.”
Educational staff willing to address each child’s unique needs is required in order for Head Start and Early Head Start programs to provide high quality learning experiences and environments.
