Suspect in custody after girl injured in Norwich taking pictures

NORWICH — Police have a suspect in custody after a shooting Tuesday morning on East Main Street.

Norwich police said officers were dispatched to the area around 7:30 am and found a female victim with a gunshot wound. The woman had been shot “through and through” in the left leg, the police said in a news release.

Police said the woman is being treated at Backus Hospital.

Norwich police said the suspect in the shooting had his child with him at the time the shooting occurred, and fled the scene before officers arrived.

Police identified the suspected shooter as 46-year-old Larry Brown. He was apprehended in Hartford around 9:30 am Tuesday morning with the assistance of Hartford and state police, Norwich police said. Brown’s child was located and was unharmed, the agency said.

It was not immediately clear if Brown had been charged in the shooting. Court records indicate Brown has one case pending for charges of third-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace stemming from an incident on Jan. 22. He was arrested that same day and was freed on $5,000 bond, court records show. Brown is due back in court on that case on May 16.

Norwich police are asking anyone with information about Tuesday’s shooting to speak with investigators.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Detective Reichard at 860-886-5561 EXT 3157, by email [email protected] or by calling the Department’s Anonymous Tip Line at 860-886-5561 EXT 4.
