Yesterday, a worker at the Hulu Terengganu Syariah Lower Court was sentenced to 30 days in prison for failing to give his six children an alimony of RM 11,000.

According to Harian Metro, the decision was made by Judge Syarie Nik Mohd Shahril Irwan Mat Yusof after Defendant Diang Abd Ghani, 54, was found guilty of failure to pay child support for his ex-wife under Section 181 of the Syariah Court (Terengganu) civil procedure ruling .

Ten years ago, on April 21, 2010, the court ordered the man to pay his six children 300 RM per month for maintenance.

The father of six children did not pay the maintenance, which led to a backlog of up to 11,000 RM.

On February 19, the court ordered him to appear in court after his ex-wife made a decision.

However, the man did not appear in court. As a result, an arrest warrant was issued.

The man was arrested on December 15 before he was tried.
