AG Paxton awards CIDs to ERCOT and other companies after dangerous power outages in winter storms

AUSTIN – Attorney General Ken Paxton today issued Civil Investigative Demands (CIDs) to ERCOT and other utility companies regarding power outages, contingency plans, energy prices and more in connection with this week’s winter weather disaster.

The major failure of Texan utilities to withstand the winter storm left millions of Texans in deadly, record-low temperatures across the state without electricity or heat.

“I am using the fullest extent of my constitutional powers to investigate ERCOT and other companies that grossly mistreated this week’s extreme winter weather. While the Texans banded together to get their communities through this disaster, they largely stayed in the dark, “he said Attorney General Paxton. “We are going to get to the bottom of this power outage and I will work tirelessly for justice for Texans.”
