2 kids useless, 1 in important situation, suspect in custody following south Toledo taking pictures

The coroner’s office ruled the deaths of Gabriel Phillips, 1, and Ahmir Phillips, 5, as murders, and the cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds.

TOLEDO, Ohio – Two boys are dead and a third has had surgery and is in critical condition after a shooting in a South Toledo apartment complex, police confirmed Friday.

The shooting took place on the 800 block of Byrneport Drive on Friday evening. Toledo police arrived and found three boys in the apartment, each with at least one gunshot wound. The children were treated on site before they were taken to hospital.

Ahmir Phillips (5) and Gabriel Phillips (1) died in the hospital. Ashton Phillips, 4, remains in critical condition. Toledo police said he “continues to fight for life”.

According to an uncle of Ashton Phillips, the 4-year-old was operated on Saturday morning at CS Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor. Doctors say Ashton isn’t speaking yet, but he can hear. In addition, he can only move his legs from Saturday.

The Lucas County’s coroner office released the autopsy report of the deaths of Gabriel and Ahmir on Saturday morning.

According to the autopsy, multiple gunshot wounds were the cause of her death. The coroner’s office also ruled her death as murder.

Daniel Gerken, Toledo police chief, said officials believe the situation is a domestic dispute.

The suspect, 27-year-old Kevin Moore, was arrested at the scene. Moore is the children’s mother’s friend. The boys’ mother, Crystal Marie Andrews, was unharmed.

She was not home at the time of the attacks as she was helping her mother with a moving truck, according to a social media post written by Andrews. She said she came home and discovered that her children were shot.

Moore has been admitted to Lucas County Jail on two serious homicides and one grievous assault charge.

WTOL 11 will contact Andrews to hear from her when she is ready.

A neighbor who lives in the Byrneport Apartments said there had been shootings at the complex but she had never seen a police presence like the one there on Friday night.

Detectives have opened an investigation. If you have information about the incident, call Crime Stoppers at 419-255-1111.
